The N. C. General Assembly has enacted a new congressional- district alignment that divided Moore County between the 6th and 8th districts, marking the first time in the state's history that a county has been split into more than one congressional district. Avery County was dropped from the 11th district which otherwise remains the same. None of the 11 districts under the new plan, varies in population by more than 2 7 percent from any other district. The Reagan administration on Wednesday dropped two antitrust suits filed by its predecessor after acknowledging that it has created “a more favorable atmosphere for mergers" of big business. Taylor & Murphy Continued On Back Page Green Creek Little League Awards The Green Creek Little League Awards were presented Tuesday. Indians: Best Hitter—Tony Barker; Most Valuable — John Dufford. Red Sox: Best Pitcher — Tim Blackwell; Best All Around — Tammy Thompson; Most Valuable Player — Darrell Taylor. Giants: Sportsmanship — J. C. Twitty, Jr.; Best All Around — Sean Pack; Best Outfielder — Michael Womack; Most Valuable Player — Craig Collins. Yankees: Best Hitter — Chuckie Brown; Most Valuable Player — Michael Mathis. Championship Trophy: 1st. place to the Yankees (presented to Jeff Weaver for Player of the Year for the Yankees. I Sportsmanship: Indians. Flag Event There were 109 players in the Tryon Country Club July 4th Flag Event. First prize was won by W. Augustine whose shot was off the 11th tee Second was W Burleson, also off the 11th tee. Third was D. Kirby in the cup on No. 10. Fourth, fifth and sixth were H. Olson, P Waldenfels and G. Nelson, all of whom were on the 10th green. The regular meetings of the Polk County School Board and the Tryon School Board will not be held during July Upstairs Auditions The Upstairs Players, Polk County’s traveling summer theatre troupe, announces auditions for a production of Shakespeare’s magical “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” The play will be performed in the evenings in Saluda, Tryon, Landrum and Columbus during the first and second weeks of August. All ages are needed and no audition material or preparation is required. Come to The Upstairs Gallery, 117 S. Trade St., Tryon on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m and take part in this exciting and ambitious project The Upstaris Players will host their first public play reading this Tuesday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. at The Upstaris Gallery. Women’s Golf Results The Tuesday, July 7th event for the day for the women at the Tryon Country Club was Executive Tees, Low Putts. The winners were Class A: (tie) Jane Snowden with Nancy Steuerwald; Class B: Margaret Pexton, Class C: Clara Henderson; Class D: (tie) Paula Joyce with Ethel Pomeroy. Gwen Hamrick won the Grandmother’s Tournament with a net of 34. Little League Playoff Schedule The area Little League Playoffs will be held at Green Creek this year and begin Monday. The tournament is a double elimination affair.
